Guess what this is



Is it a rose? Is it a vegetable cut out and placed into a beautiful pattern?

Actually it's a complete work of nature.

Boil a bunch of Shanghai "bak choi" (the small variety) in some hot water for 3-4 minutes. Take out and cut a cross section about 1 inch from the bottom. And voila - you have arrived at the above!

Random discovery after cooking a meal for myself! At that point, I could count the number of times I'd cooked on two hands - after 6 months, I wonder how I'm still alive! Or maybe I'm just always eating raw food? No chance of that one.
